Bad Bunny loves controversy and he is always raking it through his music, music videos, concert performances, interviews, and comments. Who is Bad Bunny? Bad Bunny is the stage name of Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, a Puerto Rican singer, and rapper whose music has often been described as Latin trap and reggaeton. Bad Bunny himself has said that his music contains snatches of other genres like rock, bachata, and soul. Whatever you call it the fact remains that his music is very popular and he has millions of fans all over the Latin world. His personal life has been under the microscope ever since he began his music career and people have often asked aloud “Is Bad Bunny gay?”
He Supports LGBTQ Rights
People are curious to know more about his personal life and frequently ask questions like “Who is Bad Bunny’s girlfriend?” and “Who is Bad Bunny’s partner?” They think this way because Bad Bunny has done enough for the LGBTQ cause that they want to know why he is so vocal about their rights. Most straight people would not indulge in a cause like the LGBTQ cause unless they had a specific reason for doing it. So what’s Bad Bunny’s reason to support the LGBTQ movement? That’s why tongues are wagging and questions are being asked about Bad Bunny’s sexuality.
Bad Bunny openly supports LGBTQ rights and in January 2019 he criticized a tweet by fellow reggaeton artist Don Omar that was considered racist by many people. Bad Bunny tweeted:
“Homophobia, in this day and age? How embarrassing, loco.”
Later in February 2020 he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and called attention to the brutal murder of a transgender woman in Puerto Rico.
Challenging Gender Perceptions
Bad Bunny has challenged gender norms through his music as well. In the music video of his latest single “Yo Perreo Sola,” he appears in drag to portray several different women including a red-latex wearing diva and a big breasted lady. In it, he also appears topless bound in chains and surrounded by several ladies on thrones. All this imagery confuses his fans though they love it. Some people get carried away by all this imagery and speculate on Big Bunny’s sexuality that he is most reluctant to talk about.
His Future Sexuality is Uncertain!
Bad Bunny has said in an interview that he isn’t particularly interested in answering questions about his sexuality. When cornered in an interview with the LA Times, Bad Bunny had said:
“It does not define me. At the end of the day, I don’t know if in 20 years I will like a man. One never knows in life. But at the moment I am heterosexual and I like women.”
The next question obviously is who is the woman in his life right now? Unfortunately, Bad Bunny has not answered this question and has kept everybody in the dark about his love life.
Standing Up for the Outsiders
When asked why he supported the rights of the LGBTQ community so much he told everybody why it’s so important for him to include queer and disenfranchised people in his work. Bad Bunny said:
“There are people who listen to reggaeton and love it and at the same time they have never felt represented within it. In 20 or 30 years nobody had worried about that, but I did.”
He Couldn’t Care Less
So just because Bad Bunny supports the rights of the LGBTQ community does that mean that he is gay? Of course not! However, if Bad Bunny admits to his being involved with a woman people might change their perception about his personal life and these questions about his sexuality would go away. However, Bad Bunny couldn’t care less and he is least bothered by what people talk about him. He is here to make music and nothing can distract him from that. Gay or not Bad Bunny loves his music and wants more people to enjoy it.
